It was a tough day at the office for Melton Centrals in the Riddell District Football League on Saturday. The young Centrals team came up well short against the Sunbury Kangaroos, going down by 77 points. Melton made a solid start to the match, going blow for blow with the Kangaroos through the first quarter. But the longer the match went, the better Sunbury looked.
The Kangaroos booted 16 goals across the final three quarters to seal the win. Mitchell Streiff was among the standouts for Sunbury, kicking five goals, while Adam Fenton finished with three. For Centrals, Liam Toohey continued his strong start to the season and was among his side’s best players. After four rounds, Melton is 11th on the RDFL seniors ladder with a 1-3 record. The Centrals will take on ninth-placed Rupertswood this week.

Michael Alexandra will coach Melton in the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association next season. Alexandra was appointed to the top job last week. He replaces Nathan Geisler, who stepped down from the role at the end of last season. After missing the 2013-14 finals, the Lions enjoyed a return to form this season, finishing third on the ladder and winning nine matches. In other good news for the club last week, fast bowler Brad Jones was named in the VSDCA team of the year.
