Knitted poppies will adorn the trees of Bacchus Marsh’s Avenue of Honour in two years’ time to commemorate 100 years since its planting.
The Bacchus Marsh RSL ladies auxilliary is calling on avid knitters and crocheters to help create 3000 poppies for the centenary of the Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honour on August 10, 2018.
President Bev Kummerlowe says the avenue will be closed off on the day to mark the momentous occasion.
“School children from the district schools [will] place a wreath of knitted poppies on every tree in the Avenue of Honour,” Ms Kummerlowe said.
“Just like on the 10th of August, 1918, a bugle will sound and a ceremony will be held.
“We are asking for volunteers in the community to help us knit 3000 poppies to make the wreaths.”
People interested can pick up a copy of the poppy pattern from the Bacchus Marsh RSL, 203 Main Street, between 9am and noon on weekdays.
