The pipes, the pipes are calling

ANYONE searching for a unique hobby should consider the Clans O’the West Highland Pipe Band, which is recruiting bagpipers to perform all over Melbourne.

Secretary Robyne Undy says the group is looking to boost numbers, and members are willing to teach newcomers to play the pipes.

The band, which has been performing since 1983, practises each Wednesday at Rockbank hall.

“It would be a shame, after all these years, if we have to start turning down requests to play because we don’t have enough pipers,” Ms Undy said.

She said the band was a diverse bunch, with members aged from 11 to 82, all wearing tartan kilts to represent their family backgrounds. Instruments and uniforms can be provided.

Upcoming performances include Anzac Day marches at Glenroy and Bacchus Marsh on April 21 and in Melbourne April 25; the Kyneton Daffodil and Arts Festival parade on September 15; and Sunbury Agricultural Show on October 12.
