Diggers Rest march over Lancefield

Diggers Rest and Melton Centrals had no trouble accounting for Lancefield and Broadford respectively in the Riddell District Football League on Saturday.

It wasn’t the prettiest of wins for the Burras, but they were never in trouble against the Tigers.

The Burras led by 30 points at quarter-time, but the game could have been over by that stage if they had kicked straight.

They were able to increase the lead in each quarter and went on to win 22.20 (152)-6.3 (39).

Josh Wallace, Thomas Taylor and Brent Tuckey kicked four goals apiece for the Burras and Tuckey was named their best player.

The Burras sit fifth, but have played a game less than all the sides above them.

Melton Centrals moved up a spot to eighth and a game outside the top six, with a convincing win against Broadford.

It was one of those games Centrals was expected to win and win big and they did exactly that. They kicked at least five goals in every quarter, saving their best for last with nine last-quarter goals.

Centrals won 28.19 (187)-4.5 (29).

It was a tough day for Rockbank against last year’s premiers Macedon. Just one goal was scored in the first quarter.

The Cats dominated the contest after quarter-time, winning 25.10 (160)-3.5 (23). Matt Knox had a day out kicking eight goals for the Cats.

For the Rams it was their young leaders who stood up. Alan Greenwood, Ricky Cameron and Jordan and Mitch Baumgartner were among the best.
