A new car park at Melton station was officially opened yesterday by Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll, who also had the chance to ride on one of the new FlexiRide bus services.

The on-demand bus service in Melton South is designed to provide locals with accessible public transport that is flexible and will connect them to key areas in Melton.

FlexiRide services don’t have a fixed route and passengers book a seat via the FlexiRide Melton South app or phone.

They are then directed to their closest bus stop – either a physical or appropriate alternative location – and picked up and transported to dedicated hubs.

Four new buses will service the area, connecting passengers to the key hubs such as Cobblebank Station, Melton Station, Woodgrove Shopping Centre, Melton Bus Interchange and local schools.

“FlexiRide Melton South is part of our ongoing commitment to deliver reliable and convenient bus services in Melbourne’s outer suburbs,” Mr Carroll said.

Melton station has had some recent upgrades, including a second entrance to platform one, a footpath connecting the new entrance to the Exford Road level crossing, extra seats and shelters on platform one, new CCTV cameras and accessible parking spaces.

The government is also creating 100 new car spaces at the station as part of its Car Parks for Commuters program.

For people wanting to ride their bike to the station instead, a new secure Parkiteer bike cage and 52 new bike hoops will provide more options for commuters.

With construction complete, works will now turn to planting about 8,000 new trees, plants, shrubs and grasses.
