Samurai sword found in search

A Harkness man is among two males charged as part of an investigation into an aggravated home invasion in Mildura last year.

Two search warrants were executed this morning, Tuesday 3 February, in the Springvale area.

The 20-year-old Harkness man was previously charged on Wednesday 7 January with two counts of possessing a controlled weapon without an excuse and possession of cocaine and was bailed to appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on 7 May.

A 17-year-old boy from the Springvale area was charged with possession of a handgun and cartridge ammunition, trafficking and possessing ecstasy, possession of proceeds of crime, handling stolen goods, two counts of possessing a weapon and failure to provide a mobile phone pin.

He was bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

Investigators seized what is believed to be a 3D printed 0.22 calibre handgun, a samurai sword, MDMA, a flick knife, cash and a stolen drivers licence from his address.

The charges follow an investigation into an incident at a residential address in Mildura on 29 October last year.

Police allege a number of offenders wearing hoodies and masks and carrying machetes and a baseball bat smashed a window and gained access to a residence just before 12.30am.

Nothing was stolen during the incident, but a 70-year-old Mildura woman sustained minor injuries.

Police believe the incident was targeted and the investigation remains ongoing.
