Police are searching for two men over an unprovoked daylight assault in Melton that has left a woman hospitalised with serious injuries.

CCTV footage shows 52-year-old resident Melinda walking along Unitt Street about 2.50pm on Tuesday when a male riding a bike rode up to her from behind and kicked her in the back.

The attack caused Melinda to fall forward onto concrete, resulting in serious injuries that required surgery.

Bystanders stopped to assist the woman while the offender rode off with a second male who was also riding a bike.

Police have released CCTV images and footage depicting two males detectives believe could assist with enquiries.

The second male was also perceived to be in his late teens to early 20s, wearing a grey hooded jumper, beige cap, dark coloured pants and shoes and riding a black bike.
