Applications are now open for a ‘Local Green Champions’ grant program with $80,000 worth in funding available for eligible Victorian community organisations.

Groups that plan projects to benefit the City of Melton are eligible for the grants as one of four local council areas.

Community organisations can be awarded a grant of up to $5,000 for their sustainability programs, events, or initiatives that benefit their local community.

Applicants must show how their ideas support the community on waste reduction and recycling, growing and sharing food, caring for Country and promoting healthy waterways, as well as protecting local biodiversity and more.

The grants are being supplied by real estate company Lendlease.

Lendlease head of communities Victoria Anne Jolic said the initiative was all about creating greener sustainable spaces.

“Our Local Green Champions grant program is one of the many ways we are encouraging our community groups to share their ideas on sustainable living and help bring these to life across our Lendlease masterplanned communities,” Ms Jolic said.

“This funding is aimed specifically at empowering groups to deliver the type of projects that they know will help create a cleaner and greener greater Melbourne.”

Applications will close on July 15, with the successful applicants to be announced in early August.
