Moorabool residents are invited to lace up their walking shoes and take part in celebrating the completion of the Bald Hill precinct, with a community event set for Saturday 13 December.
The milestone marks the end of a four-year project which has delivered three major attractions at the much-loved Darley site in the All-abilities Trail, the 1000+ Steps and the Summit Trail, each designed to highlight sweeping views across the Moorabool Shire, Lerdederg State Park and the distant You Yangs.
Festivities are set to be held at the very top of Bald Hill, accessible via Swans Road, where visitors can enjoy a free community barbecue, coffee, and the chance to explore the 2.5-kilometre summit trail alongside the artists behind its sculpture installations.
For those chasing an early challenge, the morning will kick off with a climb up the 1000+ Steps, departing from Telford Park on Halletts Way at 9am.
Official proceedings begin at 10am at the summit trail car park.
Mayor Cr Steve Venditti-Taylor encouraged residents to make the most of one of Moorabool’s standout public spaces.
“No matter if you prefer to walk or run, I encourage you to come and have a look at the completed Summit Trail and experience 360-degree views of the Lerderderg National Park, You Yangs and even Melbourne,” he said.
Following formalities, artists and council staff will lead a guided loop of the summit circuit, sharing the stories behind the sculptures scattered along the trail.
The barbecue and coffee van will be available from 9.45am to 11am. With limited parking at the summit, visitors are encouraged to carpool where possible.
