A 36-year-old Heathcote man was shot in Melton on Saturday, May 7.

Emergency services responded to a call from Federation Drive in Melton at about 3pm and located a man who allegedly had multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Victoria Police are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting incident. Police suspect that the incident was a targeted attack and the parties involved may be known to each other.

The man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries and remains there in a stable condition.

The shooting followed an aggravated burglary incident on Friday May 6 as a woman and child were assaulted when five armed males entered a home in Melton.

Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives were told the males allegedly forced entry via the back door of a home on Raleighs Road occupied by a woman, a teenage boy and a child at about 11.55pm.

The males, who were allegedly armed with edged weapons, assaulted a nine-year-old child before demanding money and assaulting a 51-year-old woman.

A 16-year-old boy ran from the house to get help.

The child was uninjured while the woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The males fled the scene after stealing a gaming console and a mobile phone.

Police are seeking to identify the five males. They are described as being African in appearance and may be between 16-20 years-of-age.

Police urge anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or with CCTV or dash cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
